ISMAA Kolkata Chapter

Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad now renamed as IIT ( ISM), Dhanbad with its pragmatic and innovative curriculum since its inception ( 1926 ) produced highly skilled engineers, scientists, and technologists whose contribution to mineral industries and academics , both India and Abroad, is well known.

Indian School of Mines Alumni Association ( ISMAA ) Kolkata Chapter is an association of ex-students and ex-faculty members of now renamed IIT ( ISM), Dhanbad staying in and around Kolkata, West Bengal, registered under West Bengal Society's Act 1961 {Regn. No. (Old) S/1L/36745}, {(New) SO36745}. Established in 2004 by a handful of Alumni's have now grown into a strong and vibrant Organization with about 400 members in its roll. Since beginning the Association has adopted many objectives towards wellness of Society. To name a few :

  • The members of the Association periodically conducts lectures in High Schools on various topics related to Earth sciences, Mining, Petroleum, Earthquake - reasons and prediction, Continental Drift Theory and its manifestation, Science of lakes, Volcanoes, Earth's crust, Origin of Life, Dinosaurs- rise and extinction, Extra Terrestrial Life, Environmental protection etc, to disseminate knowledge and experience to students.
  • Through a robust Benevolent Fund corpus, assistance - both physical and financial is being extended to Chapter members and their spouses to tie over emergencies, unexpected crises mainly like medical needs, and occasionally related to major downturns, causing undue hardships in their lives.
  • In order to unearth latent talents of our member's regular literary meets e.g ' Poetry Reading Session ', ' Short storytelling ', literary discussions, etc. are being organized.
  • To propagate and dissipate knowledge, especially related to mineral industries, by periodic Seminars, Symposiums and Workshops are being organized on contemporary topics.
  • Regular and periodic publication of Members Directory, House Journal, etc to create cohesivity amongst members

Plans are on the anvil to create/provide:

  • Financial assistance by scholarships etc. to meritorious and financially backward students of our Alma Mata.
  • To provide Consultancy services to the Mining Industry through our experienced Alumni'./ members.
  • Permanent office for the Association with Seminar Hall &Transit 'stay-in facilities' for all Alumni/spouses and students.
  • Old age home for Senior members
